In the summer of 2026, Ingomar Vihmar brings to the stage at Laitse Graniitvilla the musical production “The Song of the Children of Sipirja”, based on the novel by Timo K. Mukka.
“Timo K. Mukka was a Finnish writer of scandalous reputation who lived only to the age of twenty-eight, yet died as a mature author. He wrote about love and death — the only things he believed worth writing about. He wrote about them so directly and with such clarity that respectable people considered it immoral. Mukka wrote ‘The Song of the Children of Sipirja’ at the age of twenty-two. It is the story of his own wartime and post-war childhood in a Finnish village near the Arctic Circle. I first read this novel at the age of twenty-two. The story was so tender and painful that I simply had to stage it (at Ugala Theatre in 1998). Now, almost thirty years later, the story feels just as tender and painful to me as it did then. What has changed? War is closer. Is this a story about war?… Rather, about love!”
